Administrators at Ballast Point Elem. added extra security Wednesday morning after a man threatened an employee who works at the school during a domestic dispute off campus.

Tampa Police arrested Dereke Bishop for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after they say he threatened a woman who works at the school during for the HOST after school program.

The employee's supervisor alerted school administrators of the incident, prompting a brief lockdown after school on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Hillsborough Co. School district says no threat was made toward students or the school, however they chose to put the school on lockdown as a precaution.

The principal sent an email and voice message to parents alerting them of the situation.

"I appreciate the school taking that action," said JC Clark who has a daughter at the school.

However, he didn't originally know the situation involved a school employee.

"I don't really know off the top of my head what else I would have liked them to do," said Clark.

The situation immediately lead Monica Canchola to think about what happened at a school in San Bernardino, Ca., where a man shot and killed his wife, a student and then himself.

Canchola thinks school administrators did everything they could and made the right call in sending out an email and phone messages to parents.

"You never know when somebody's going to do something," she said.
