A 25-year-old Ruskin man was arrested for DUI serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries after striking two pedestrians in St. Petersburg.

According to St. Petersburg police, Cameron Ray Baxley, of 202 24th Avenue SW, was headed northbound in a Jeep Wrangler on 3rd Street North around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night. He turned west onto 1st Street North as two pedestrians - Malcolme Sydney John Tunstall, 24, and Alexis Michele Scognamiglio, 23 - were crossing 1st Avenue North in a marked crosswalk.

Baxley failed to yield to the St. Pete residents in the crosswalk as they headed from south to north on 1st Avenue North, hitting both of them. Baxley then fled the scene but was later stopped by police a few blocks away.

Tunstall suffered life-threatening injuries, and Scognamiglio had minor injuries. Both were transported to Bayfront Health in St. Pete.

Baxley was arrested and faced a $30,000 bond. He was released from jail, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office's jail records.
