Domestic violence call ends in a fatal shooting

Posted

The Tampa Police Department is investigating and officer-involved shooting that took place in the early morning hours of Thursday.

The police say officers arrived a home in the 3300 block of Cherokee Avenue, responding to a domestic disturbance call. According to reports, an armed man came out of the house with a gun. He pulled the trigger but, after the weapon did not fire, the man went back inside.

When the suspect came back outside, officers on the scene started talking to him. That's when, they say, he fired again.  The bullet struck an officer's shield, and the police returned fire--killing the man.

Throughout the incident, there was a woman inside the house. Police did not immediately know what relationship between the pair existed.
