Desecrated American flag found at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, Rabbi promises "robust" security

An incident like this had not happened in more than 20 years. But Senior Rabbi Richard Birnholz said someone left a desecrated American flag in front of the temple and school on Saturday.

Tampa police are investigating. But a spokesperson said the picture of the flag won't be released because it's part of the investigation.

There are no suspects at this time.

The Rabbi promises "robust" security. He said the congregation has always ensured the safety of it's students, employees and members.

There was extra security at  Congregation Schaarai Zedek today.

Parents we spoke to said they are a little nervous, but are confident in the security measures in place.

This is the letter that went out to the congregation and the parents:

Dear Members of Congregation Schaarai Zedek and the Amy Gail Buchman Preschool Community,

We want to inform our Schaarai Zedek family that this past Saturday a desecrated American flag was left on the Temple property with a message written on it blaming Jews and immigrants for the nation's woes.

Out of an ongoing abundance of caution, we maintain a robust security presence.

Please be assured that the safety and security of everyone is our first priority.
