The body of a missing 29-year-old man last seen kayaking north of Fort Myers Beach was found Sunday close to Sanibel Island.

The U.S. Coast Guard searched for Justin Furman for more than a day.

Officials at Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach received a report from the Lee County Sheriff's Office about the missing man at 9:50 a.m. on Saturday. Furman had left a group of friends camping at Punta Rassa to go fishing along the beach.

He was last seen in a green, 7-foot kayak about 9 p.m. Friday.  The group remained in contact with him until about 10:15 p.m. When Furman's friends awoke Saturday morning, he had not returned.

A crew from Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, a Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Clearwater, and the Lee County Maritime Emergency Response Team launched a search Saturday morning. The search continued Sunday.

A Good Samaritan located the kayak without Furman between Sanibel Island and Bowditch Point shortly before noon Saturday.
