PD: St. Pete teen, 16, shot in head at prison release party

Two masked men fired into a gather in St. Pete early Tuesday, hitting an St. Pete 16-year-old boy in the head. The teen was recovering in the hospital in "very critical condition" as of Tuesday afternoon.  

A report from St. Petersburg police said multiple guns were used in an attack that officers believe was targeted at the a party for a man who as just released from prison. 

Police said their investigation is focused on the 4600 block of 20th Avenue South. The report said two men walked up to the party in progress just after 1 a.m. and opened fire. Two houses were hit by stray bullets, but no other injuries were reported. 

Friends tried to take the boy to the hospital after the shooting, but an officer pulled them over while they were on the way. An EMS crew finished the trip from there.

Police did not immediately give any suspect information, but said a home in the same area was the target of gunfire within the past week or two. No injuries were reported in that incident.
