Update: 9:44 a.m. -- Service has been restored to almost all AT&T customers in our area, and the company continues to monitor the situation.
-----
Original report -- If you have AT&T or have been trying to reach someone with AT&T, this may be why you're encountering problems.
In a statement, AT&T said the company is "aware" of the problem, and that engineers are working on a fix.
"We are aware of a service issue affecting some AT&T customers in the Tampa area, and engineers are working to restore service as quickly as possible. We apologize for this inconvenience."
Karen McAllister, AT&T
McAllister also said that the outage stems from an issue with a local service provider.
The Sarasota Police Department said a separate outage due to a cut Verizon line was affecting all of their internal phones and internet. That repair is complete and service is resorted.
The outage seems to be isolated to our area. You can check their outage map here.
