Halloween is rapidly approaching, which means thousands of Bay Area children will be going door to door asking for candy. But do you really know who the stranger is behind the door your child is knocking on?

Although many law enforcement agencies encourage registered sex offenders to leave their lights off and not decorate for the popular holiday, no certainties that they will listen.

Florida has over 26,000 sex offenders and sex predators who were convicted of sex crimes and are now living among us after serving time.

In The Tampa Bay Area:

Citrus County: 305 sexual offenders and predators

Hillsborough County: 1,901 sexual offenders and predators

Hernando County: 392 sexual offenders and predators

Pasco County: 888 sexual offenders and predators

Pinellas County: 1,722 sexual offenders and predators

Polk County: 1,180 sexual offenders and predators

Manatee County: 464 sexual offenders and predators

Sarasota County: 434 sexual offenders and predators
