The Tampa Bay area is sky high about 2016 AirFest at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa on March 19 and 20.

This year, Air Force enthusiasts have a special reason to sour. It's the annual event's 75th anniversary.

As part of the AirFest's special plans, the event will feature the United States Air Force Flight Demonstration Squadron, the United States Air Force Thunderbirds. Also featured will be aerial performances by both military and civilian aviators, fighter and special purpose aircraft.

"For 75 years, MacDill Air Force Base has provided unrivaled air power and a rich heritage of associations dating back to 1941," said Col. Daniel Tulley of the 6th Air Mobility Wing commander. "We are excited to invite our community to celebrate our 75th birthday and witness firsthand the capabilities of their United States Air Force. Team MacDill will be on display, and the highlight of the event will be your United States Air Force Thunderbirds."

Gates will open at 8 a.m. both days.

Maj. Ryan Garlow, the AirFest director, recently visited the studios at ABC Action News to talk to Action News' Clifton French about the annual air show.
