Two motorists died and a 8-year-old girl was injured in a head-on collision on Gunn Highway Saturday, officials said.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating the traffic crash that occurred on Gunn Highway near the Keystone Recreation Center in Odessa, a Hillsborough County sheriff's news release said.

The incident occurred about 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

A 2017 Red Chevy Traverse driven by Terry Lee Bronschidle, 70, of Tampa, was headed south on Gunn Highway north of Wayne Road, the release said.

About the same time, Spencer Theodore Schertt-Barnes, 25,  of Odessa, was driving a black 1999 Ford Ranger north on Gunn Hwy.

Callie Fowler, 8, also of Odessa, was a passenger in the Ford Ranger.

For unknown reasons, the Chevy Traverse entered the northbound lane and collided head-on with the Ford Ranger.

Both drivers were pronounced dead on the scene. Callie was taken to an area hospital, where she was last listed in critical condition, the release said.

All three people were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Their next-of-kin also have been notified.

Gunn Highway has reopened after being shut down for more than four hours.

No charges have been filed, pending further investigation.
