1 dead, 7 injured in Polk multiple vehicle crash

One woman died and seven other people, including three children, were injured Saturday in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 4 between U.S. 27 and the Polk/Osceola county line, authorities said.

The vehicles involved were all traveling eastbound on I-4 in stop-and-go traffic about 3:40 p.m. Saturday, when the accident occurred., the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

A 2015 Blue Nissan Versa, driven by Henry May, 31, of Jacksonville, slammed  into the back of a 2003 Silver Honda Pilot driven by 56-year-old Diana Daskalos Chesney of Tarpon Springs, which was forced into a 2013 Blue Chrysler Town & Country van driven by 53-year-old Timothy J. Hook of Amherst, N.Y.

Three adults and one child in the Nissan were taken to hospitals in Lakeland and Orlando in stable condition. The adult driver and two children in the Honda SUV were also taken to Orlando area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

An adult female in the Honda, Laurie A. Foster-Peterson of Tarpon Springs, died as a result of her injuries.

The three occupants in the Chrysler van were uninjured.

Polk County sheriff's deputies are investigating the incident.
