A historic Lithia home caught fire Wednesday night, sending a ball of fire and black smoke into the sky.
The fire broke out just before 8 p.m. Hillsborough County firefighters arrived on scene to find the structure fully engulfed.
Officials on scene said no one was home when the fire broke out.
Witnesses told ABC Action News they ran outside when they heard screams for help and called 911.
“Glass was breaking bullets were going off. There were bullets inside the house and power lines were sparking up,” Luke Folsom said.
Folsom captured video and pictures of the fire burning out of control.
“It was a pretty bad fire, and I feel bad for those people and their loss," Folsom said.
Folsom, 15, said he was doing homework when he saw the smoke and flames. He said the home was for sale and was built in 1915. Realtor information shows it was built using pine trees that were on the property. That is why witnesses said the fire started small and quickly grew out of control.
This is still an active investigation.
