Rishi Nair, 12, a sixth grader at Williams Magnet Middle School sixth in Seffner, correctly answered the final question of the annual geographic competition:

“A new marine sanctuary will protect sharks and other wildlife around Isla Wolf in which archipelago in the Pacific Ocean?”

The answer: Galápagos Islands

"I'd like to thank my mom for [helping me prepare] and for everything she's done since I was born," Nair told National Geographic. "I love you, mom.”

Nair, the 28th annual contest’s second Florida winner, will receive a $50,000 scholarship and a lifetime membership in the National Geography Society. He also receives an eight-day trip to Southeast Alaska.
