Sandbags available as area preps for heavy rain

Sandbag materials will be available to residents as the Tampa Bay area preps for heavy rain.
Tropical moisture will begin to move across the area this weekend, bringing with it chances for as much as 4 to 5 inches of rain Monday and Tuesday.

Certain areas could receive more, and there’s even a chance the weather could become a tropical storm or depression.

Here’s where you can pick up sandbags:


You can pick up sandbags from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and all day starting at 7 a.m. on Monday at the following locations:
  • 4508 S. Grand March Ave, Homosassa
  • 7490 W. Gulf to Lake Hwy, Crystal River
  • City of Crystal River Fire Station, off US 19, 650 NW 3rd Ave.



Sandbags will be available at the following location from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday. There is a 10-bag limit and proof of residency may be required.

  • Gulfport City Hall, 2401 53rd St. S.


You can also pick up sandbags from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday at the following locations (Please be aware residents should bring shovels. Each resident must sign their name and provide their home address acknowledging the receipt of 25 sandbags or less.):
  • West Service Unit at 9805 Sheldon Road
  • South Service Unit at 8718 Old Big Bend Road
  • East Service Unit at 4702 Sydney Road


Sandbags will be available after 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday (Please bring your own shovel to use.) at the following locations:
  • 1525 E. Jefferson Street Brooksville (The Hernando County Department of Public Works)
  • 3445 Bob Hartung Court Spring Hill, off Deltona Boulevard (The Hernando County Fire Station #2)



Sandbags will be available at the following locations from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday. There is a 10-bag limit.

  • Buffalo Creek Golf Course: 8100 69th Street East, Palmetto
  • G.T. Bray: Parking lot near 51st St. W., northwest corner of entrance into Bray from 51st St west
  • Lakewood Ranch Ball Park: Lakewood Ranch Blvd
  • Stormwater, 5511 39th Street East, Bradenton
  • Rubonia Community Center: 1309 72nd St E, Palmetto
  • Holmes Beach Police Department: 5801 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach (Bags are located inside the police department.)
The following locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Sand will also still be accessible after 5 p.m. and bags will be available while supplies last. :
  • West Pasco Government Center, 7356 State St., New Port Richey (self-serve) 
  • J.W. Mitchell Park, 4825 Little Road, New Port Richey (self-serve) 
  • Veterans Memorial Park, 14333 Hicks Road, Hudson (self-serve) 
  • C-Barn, 30906 Warder Road, San Antonio (self-serve) 
  • Land O’Lakes Rec Center, 3032 Collier Parkway, Land O’Lakes (self-serve) 
  • Fire Station #2, 6907 Dairy Road, Zephyrhills (self-serve) 
  • Dade City Police Department, 38042 Pasco Avenue, Dade City (self-serve) 
  • 6240 Pine Hill Road, New Port Richey (self-serve) 
Sandbags will be available from 7 a.m. until sunset at the following locations:
  • John Chesnut Park, 2200 E. Lake Rd. S., Palm Harbor
  • Taylor Park, 1100 Eighth Ave. S.W., Largo
  • Sawgrass Lakeland, 7400 25th St. N., St. Petersburg
Severe weather has led St. Petersburg to suspend all sandbag distribution, police say.
You can pick up sandbags from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the following two locations:
  • Bobby Hicks Pool at 4201 W. Mango Ave
  • Jackson Heights Playground at 3310 E. Lake Ave.



Sandbags will be available after 4 p.m. on Friday at the following locations:
  • Dorsett Park, 500 E. Harrison Street
  • Splash Park, 508 E. Live Oak Street
  • Roosevelt Boulevard Roundabout at Dodecanese Avenue
