According to data studied from Travelers Insurance, there are more crime-related insurance claims on Halloween.
The data also reveals home burglaries have the largest increase on Halloween.
Some reminders from Tampa police: Make sure your home is well lit and leave lights on if you leave the house. This will let people know someone may be inside the house, instead of a dark empty home.
Remember to lock your doors, windows and vehicles. Also, make sure there's no valuable left inside your car.
Also, get to know your neighbors so you can work together to keep an eye on each other's properties.
The department also said Halloween will have people in costume, so be aware of suspicious activity not just the outfit. Beyond Halloween, TPD encourages you to participate in a monthly community conversation held in each district.
