MLK Day: Where to celebrate in Tampa Bay area

The 27th Annual Martin Luther King Day Parade
 
The parade, featuring bands, floats and performances, is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. today in East Tampa.
 
The newly expanded route begins at 21st Avenue and 15th Street. It moves north on 15th Street, turns east on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. It then turns north on 22nd Street and ends at East Osborne Avenue.

ST. PETERSBURG
 
The 31st Annual MLK National Drum Major for Justice Parade
 
The parade begins 11 a.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Street and Third Avenue South in St. Petersburg. The route moves north to Central Avenue and turns east toward Bayshore Drive. It then heads north to Fifth Avenue North, turns east and ends at Vinoy Park.
 
After the event, the inaugural MLK Family Fun Festival kicks off on the east side of Tropicana Field in parking lot 7A and continues until 7 p.m.

MLK Service Day Project at Southeast High School in Bradenton
 
To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, volunteers will help veterans and active service members revamp their resumes and improve their job interviewing techniques, among other skills. The school’s boys basketball team hosts the event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school’s gymnasium at 1200 37th Ave. E. in Bradenton.
 
The event includes raffles and free food.
