Hillsborough County deputies rescue a weeks-old kitten stuck in a storm sewer.

Authorities say a citizen called they heard a kitten crying beneath Gunn Highway, just west of Linebaugh Avenue. The kitten could not be seen from the sewer's opening.

Animal Services officers and four deputies responded to the scene.

Deputies Joe Saponara and Richard George climbed down into the drain on both sides of Gunn Highway. Using various tools they finally coaxed the kitten out from beneath the middle of the road.

Animal Services estimate the kitten is between 6 and 8 weeks old.

After receiving a clean bill of health the kitten will likely be put up for adoption at the Animal Resources Pet Resource Center at 440 N. Falkenburg Road in Tampa.
