AC service calls are up as temperatures hit the 90s for the first time in 2016.

Christal Shurley came home on Saturday morning to a house with no cool air.

"It's frustrating," she said.

Shurley said they just moved into her Wesley Chapel home 10 months ago and didn't notice anything wrong with the system until the temperatures spiked dramatically. She called to get an estimate and was told it would be several days before someone could be out.

"Too many calls, he says he's booked, he's had like 12 calls just for Monday," she said, talking about the repairman.

For three days the family has depended on fans, ice water, a nearby pool and open windows to catch a breeze.

Experts say there are several signs to keep an eye out for to see if your air conditioner needs repair: No cool air, poor air flow, thermostat problems and strange noises.

Owner at Amen Air tells us if you're hearing loud banging sounds shut your unit off immediately.

Another tip: When temperatures spike, like recently here in Tampa, turn your air on in the morning instead of waiting until the afternoon when it gets hot so it's not trying to so hard to catch up.
