TAMPA, Fla. — In this "Tully's How To" we're helping you find some last minute help with your taxes.
The deadline is Monday, April 15. If you cannot file on time you must file an extension giving you until October 15 to submit your tax documents to the IRS.
You will not be penalized if you file an extension, but you will need to pay interest on any amount you owe.
On that topic, if you owe and cannot afford to pay, most taxpayers qualify for a payment plan. This is called an online payment agreement. It is very likely you will qualify for the plan unless you owe more than $50,000.
You can file for an extension by clicking here and sign up for an online payment agreement by clicking here.
Keep your stress level down because filing this year could be easier in some ways than in past years.
The new tax code increased standard deductions to $12,000 for a single dependent ($24,000 per couple). Basically that means unless you think you can write-off more than that amount, you don't have to go through and itemize everything.
