ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Cross-Bay Ferry is making changes to combat coronavirus concerns.

A notice on its website says the ferry will be indefinitely limiting its capacity by 50 percent. The decision is in step with the City of St. Petersburg’s directives.

Some passengers who purchased tickets for trips that are now overbooked will receive a refund. Those who booked early have a better chance of keeping their spot. Other current ticket holders who purchased online can make changes on the Cross-Bay Ferry’s website.

The notice goes on to say that crews are stepping up cleaning efforts and will now be disinfecting the vessel between every run. Areas that customers touch frequently, like handrails and door handles, will receive special attention.

The Cross-Bay Ferry’s third season began in November. In December, officials reported a ridership boost with attendance 50% higher in 2019 compared to December 2018.

It is unclear when capacity on the ferry will return to normal. The season ends on April 30.
