Sheriff confirms teen dead after shooting in Brandon

TAMPA BAY, Fla — A teen is dead after a shooting in Brandon, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff.

Deputies say they were called to the 1800 block of Lake Chapman Drive around 9:20 p.m., for the shooting.

When deputies arrived they found a dead 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was shot in the parking lot of the Lakeshore Apartment Complex.

Deputies are investigating the case as a drug deal gone wrong, and say there is no threat to the public. There is no information on the shooter.

“Tonight’s incident never should have occurred and had a tragic result,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “A teenager, a high school student, had his life cut short all because of a situation that could have been avoided.”
