The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly pedestrian hit-and-run crash in St. Petersburg.

Investigators say the victim was hit by an SUV walking south across 54th Avenue North along Haines Road Wednesday night. That driver remained on scene.

The victim was hit again by a second SUV that sped away, leaving the pedestrian for dead.

The pedestrian was later identified as 38-year-old Levi Brodie Forsyth of St. Petersburg.

According to Sgt. Steve Gaskins, the Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a red or gold SUV similar to a Ford Edge.

Troopers shut down a portion of 54th Avenue North Wednesday night during the investigation. The street was back open by 11 p.m.
