9yo gets birthday surprise after party no-shows

A 9-year-old Indiana boy was stood up by his friends at his birthday party, but his grandmother made sure he got a flood of greetings from around the world.

Gerald Hamilton invited 30 of his schoolmates and pals to his party on Saturday (4/2). Twelve classmates said they would come. But none showed up.

Hamilton's grandmother, Amelia Lara, said the youngster has had several major brain surgeries, and is slower than many kids his age. She said he often plays alone, but two hours went by on Saturday, and the boy still didn't want his mother to cut his cake, in case a friend showed up.

So Lara took to the Internet, posting on Facebook that she wanted people to send him a card to make up for the humiliation.
