We love kitchen gadgets.
Waffle makers, bread makers, vegetable peelers, you name it, they make it.
But a new report says most of them you probably don't need.
Used Twice, Put Away Forever
Ever notice all the kitchen gadgets for sale at yard sales? There's a reason, according to the money saving site
It says you see so many used ones for sale because most people use cute gadgets just once or twice before putting them away forever.
In its report, Cheapism says items you really don't need unless you are a caterer, professional chef, or restaurant owner include:
- A panini maker.
- A quesadilla maker.
- A butter bell.
- Melon wedgers.
- Garlic and onion peelers.
- A popcorn machine (unless you have a really big home theater).
Pizza Makers Everywhere
And from the doesn't that stink file, the cottage industry built around homemade pizza, when most of us eat frozen or delivery pizza.
So unless you own a restaurant, Cheapism says you probably don't need:
- A pizza toaster.
- Pizza cutting shears or scissors.
- Pizza grill attachments, for making pizza on your propane grill.
There is nothing wrong with any of these. They all work, and often make the job easier. If you love grilled panini sandwiches, the way they make them in old Italy, then you absolutely need a panini maker.
But like a trouser press, most people really don't need them. A regular clothes iron does just fine for most of us.
A cabinet full of all those gadgets, with no room to put anything else, might make you say "doesn't that stink."
Cheapism says the only pizza gadget you really need is a round cutting wheel, that sells for 5 bucks.
Cheapism says stick with the kitchen basics -- toaster, blender, knives, pots and pans -- and you can make most things. And you would be amazed at all the things your oven will do, like bake a pizza.
You won't clutter up all your cabinets, and you don't waste your money.
