SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida father and daughter are charged with murder after an ex-police officer was found dead in bed.
Sunrise police say former Miami-Dade officer Johnnie Ridgeway was shot several times earlier this month while sleeping.
Police say Michael Colon was the victim’s nephew and had been living with his aunt at the time of the arrest. Colon helped orchestrate the killing and recruited his daughter as the driver during the alleged crime.
Colon was charged with premediated murder this week.
The Sun Sentinel reports his daughter also faces murder charges but police are not identifying her because of her age. A third suspect remains at large.
Ridgeway was fired from the force in 1999 after being indicted for allegedly sexually assaulting a female driver and subjecting five other women to sexual taunts while they were in custody in 1997.
