Our pet of the week is a purebred German Shorthaired Pointer. Mia is 15 months old and weighs 50 pounds. She comes from 4 Lucky Dogs Pet Rescue.
Mia has undergone basic training and knows how to "sit" and "come." She is a high energy dog and needs to be exercised daily. She is currently learning how to play catch with a Frisbee.
Mia would thrive with an athletic family that will keep her engaged in a daily sport such as running, biking, or hiking. Her previous owner ran five miles a day with her.
4 Lucky Dogs Pet Rescue reports Mia gets along well with other dogs, adults and children. Because of her high energy, she would do better with older kids and dogs that at least medium in size.
German Shorthaired Pointer were bred to be hunting dogs. Because she may have a high prey drive, Mia may not do well with cats.
Shelter workers report Mia is very food motivated, trainable, and extremely smart. She is very obedient and easy to please.
The only problem Mia has is at times she thinks she is small and will try to be your lap dog.
