A tremor went through science-fantasy fans Thursday morning as Lucasfilm released the first tease trailer for the upcoming "Star Wars" anthology movie "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

The movie is set between the "Star Wars" prequels and the original trilogy. It tells the story of the rebels who helped steal the plans for the Death Star.

The Death Star was originally designed by Geonosians and its plans were given to County Dooku in "Attack of the Clones." In "A New Hope" R2-D2 carried the stolen plans to the Rebel Alliance base on Yavin 4.

"Rogue One" will explain exactly how the rebels got ahold of the plans.

The trailer centers on Jyn (Felicity Jones). She is a thief who is called upon by the Rebel leader to use her skills to uncover the massive weapon the Empire is testing. The risk is high as capture likely means torture and certain death.

The character played by Forest Whitaker asks Jyn, "What will you do when they catch you? What will you do when they break you? If you continue to fight... what will you become?"

The answer may be a hero. Watch the trailer here:

"Rogue One" is directed by Gareth Edwards ("Godzilla'). It stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn and Forest Whitaker. It is due to open in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016.
