WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Crystal Alicea, 20, told us that it is finally her time to shine.
She brought tears to American Idol judge Katy Perry's eyes when she sang Sam Smith's "Lay me down" during her audition in Savannah, Georgia.
She wow'ed the judges so much that she earned her golden ticket to Hollywood. We'll be following Crystal's journey this season.
"I'm a very spontaneous and loud, crazy... outgoing, human being,” said Alicea. "That’s really the most I can give you."
The Winter Haven native just recently showcased her talent to her family and friends, never completely sure of how good her voice was. She said one day she just decided to sing because in fact, it’s something she just loves to do.

"If you’re not doing something that you’re passionate about for the right reasons, then why are you doing it at all," said Alicea.
Now, she is hoping to be the next American Idol, but the road to this point has been anything but easy. She gives her fiancé most of the credit when it comes to getting the courage to actually go to the auditions in Orlando.
“We waited in line for more than 12 hours [in Orlando]. And then when I was sent to Savannah in front of the celebrity judges I waited probably as long,” said Alicea. “In the beginning for me it was very nerve-racking because these are three very incredible people. But at the same time, I just thought of it as these are just three of my best friends that I haven’t seen in a very long time.”
She said the experience to this point has been life-changing, but of course, stressful.
