ABC Action News is Taking Action for our community with the launch of “20 Days for Tampa Bay,” a Feeding Tampa Bay virtual drive to raise money for those in need.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced a record number of our neighbors into unemployment and they continue to struggle to make ends meet.
Now, more than ever…families are without basic meals.
That’s why we have teamed up with the Pinellas Community Foundation to help our neighbors, family, and friends.
THE NEED FOR 20 DAYS FOR TAMPA BAY
ABC Action News has learned 70 percent of those visiting Feeding Tampa Bay Mega Pantries are seeking assistance for the first time.
Those who formerly lived paycheck to paycheck are now seeking help, never imagining they’d find themselves in a food line, according to our partners at Feeding Tampa Bay.
Prior to the pandemic, Feeding Tampa Bay experienced over 600,000 of our neighbors in need of food assistance, now due to unemployment that number has magnified to 1.7 million.
To add to the struggle, several Summer Food Programs for school children stopped during the pandemic. They continue to stay closed throughout the summer, but Feeding Tampa Bay is helping fill the gaps where county programs are unable to do so.
