The St. Lucie Fire District said a 58-year-old woman suffered cardiac arrest overnight, the first local storm-related death from Hurricane Matthew.

An emergency call came in at 1:20 a.m. Friday after the district had suspended operations due to the storm.

The victim, whose name has not been released, did not live on a barrier island.

The district is considering this a storm-related death because emergency crews could not respond to the call.

Another call came in at 3:26 a.m. when emergency crews were unable to respond due to dangerous winds. An 82-year-old man ended up being taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.

That patient also died.

And a husband and wife were found unconscious insider their home by neighbors just after 7:30.

The St. Lucie County Fire District says the couple was running a generator inside their garage during the hurricane.

Both are hospitalized in critical condition.
