Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a fire a furniture store in the Sulphur Springs neighborhood on Sunday night.

Around 10:35 p.m., crews arrived at Southern Used Furniture, located at 8133 N Nebraska Ave., and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-story brick building.

Firefighters immediately called for a second alarm due to contents of the store and the store's proximity to adjacent buildings.

Authorities report at one point a flashover occurred, forcing firefighters to exit the store and fight the fire from a defensive position.

Firefighters sprayed water on the flames through the collapsed roof using aerial units. A Tampa Police helicopter helped provide live video showing hot spots to the incident commander.

It took close to two and a half hours bring the fire under control. Firefighters contained the flames to the furniture store, preventing any major damage to the adjacent businesses.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries fighting the fire and went to a local hospital for treatment.

According to the report the fire appears to have started in the northeast corner of the building. The business owner was in the building at the time of the fire but was able to escape unharmed.

The building is a total loss, the damage to the building and its contents is estimated at $165,000.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this point and will remain under investigation.
