A small plane crashed into a building near Page Field in Fort Myers shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday, officials said.

One person died and a second person was taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries, the Lee County Sheriff's Office said.

No one on the ground was injured.

A "Piper PA 28 Cherokee Aircraft crashed during takeoff at Page Field today around 8 a.m.," according to a FAA statement. " The National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident. The FAA will investigate."

The plane lost control and hit a building, Lee County Emergency Management spokeswoman Christie Knudson said.

The building is believed to house a day care facility on the Chico campus. At the time, it was unclear if children were in the building.

The plane crash was captured on a surveillance camera.
