Looking for some free and fun things to do with your kids before summer comes to an end? Select Lowe’s locations are offering free Build and Grow events, with two events already scheduled for August and September.

It is important to note that this is not offered in all Lowe’s locations — yet. While Lowe’s says the program will eventually expand to stores nationwide, it is currently only available in areas surrounding Charlotte, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; and Seattle, Washington.

The first Build and Grow event will take place Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Your kids can build a wooden dinosaur, complete with stickers so your child can choose whether they’d like to make it a cartoonish dinosaur or a more realistic one.

Each clinic takes about 15-30 minutes and you must check in by 11 a.m. You also have to pre-register to save your child’s place.

The next Build and Grow event is Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In honor of October being Fire Safety Month, kids will have the opportunity to build a fire truck.

Registration is required and you can register as early as Aug. 10. Like the dinosaur event, the fire truck build will take about 15-30 minutes, so you should check in by 11 a.m. to make sure your child has time to participate.

If you don’t live near one of the Lowe’s stores offering one of these free events, you may want to check out Home Depot. They have a similar program nationwide, with their next event being a scarecrow planter on Sept. 7.

From 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., kids can learn how a seed grows while you help them construct a home for their plant. You will need to pre-register at your local Home Depot, so make sure to do so soon.

With your help, your child will sand, glue and paint pieces of wood to create the scarecrow planter, which looks perfect for fall. They will get to take home their craft, along with a free certificate of achievement, a workshop apron and a commemorative pin, while supplies last.

Will you be taking your child to any of these hands-on events?
