Tropical Storm Dorian forms in distant Atlantic

MIAMI - The fourth named storm of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane season formed in the distant Atlantic Wednesday morning. Dorian, with top winds of 50 mph, is moving to the west-northwest at 20 mph.

Dorian is far from land.  At 5 p.m. EDT, the system was centered about 500 miles (500 kilometers) west of the Cape Verde Islands.

Slight weakening is possible during the next day or so as the storm moves over cooler water.

Current computer models show Dorian as a tropical storm just north of Puerto Rico on Monday morning.
