Prosecutors say they intend to seek the death penalty for Nikolas Cruz, the former student accused of killing 17 people at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL on February 14, 2018.

Florida grand jury formally charges Nikolas Cruz with 17 counts of murder in school shooting

The office of Broward County State Attorney Michael Satz filed the formal notice Tuesday.

Cruz is scheduled for formal arraignment Wednesday on 17 first-degree murder charges and 17 attempted murder charges.

Cruz’s attorneys have said he would plead guilty if the death penalty was not pursued in school shooting case.

Cruz could also face life in prison with no possibility of parole.
