BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - At least one person is dead and another has been wounded after a double shooting in rural Brooksville.
According to Hernando County Sheriff's spokesperson Denise Moloney, a male victim was shot and killed on scene, and a female victim was shot and airlifted to a local trauma center in unknown condition after the shootings off Desales Street.
A male suspect has been taken into custody and was hospitalized for treatment of unknown injuries. Deputies do not believe there are additional suspects.
"We do not believe that it's domestic," Moloney said, but she could not elaborate on the relationship between the two victims and the suspected shooter.
Major case detectives and a forensics team are on scene working to determine what happened during the shooting in what Maloney said was sparsely populated area.
The shootings happened in a front yard on DeSales Street near several mobile homes.
The Sheriff's Office received calls from nearby residents who heard gunfire, Moloney said.
A motive for the shootings was still being investigated. The suspect and victims have not been identified.
