When you think of rainy season, you may not think about your allergies. But the reality is, there's always an allergy season in the Bay area.

In fact, 20% of adults and 40% of children have an environmental allergy.

Dr. Rima Sanka tells us that increased showers bring an increase in dust mites, mold and grass pollen.

"I would say the majority of patients who have mild symptoms typically self treat with antihistamines or nasal steroid sprays," explains Dr. Sanka.

But if those drugs aren't working for you, you may want to try to an allergy skin test. It can provide you more long-term relief and is often covered by your insurance.

When it comes to food allergies, experts suggest trying an elimination diet. You remove the food from  your diet for 7 days and then add it back in 3 days in a row.

"A sensitivity can be anywhere from a fatigue, not feeling right, and having constipation or upset stomach. An allergy will be much more immediate," the doctor said.
