Woman accused of stabbing man in Tampa street during fight says he tried to spit her

Victim ended up with collapsed lung

TAMPA - A woman arrested for stabbing a man outside of a Tampa bar says she did it because the victim tried to spit on her, according to the Tampa Police.

The incident happened after 2 a.m. outside of the Blue Note bar, near the corner of Nebraska Avenue and 3rd  Avenue.

Hershel Williams, 49, and Stephanie Branch, 48, started arguing inside of the bar, then they both left the bar and continued arguing outside in the street.

Branch told police Williams tried to spit on her. She became angry, grabbed a steak knife and stabbed Williams in the chest.

The victim stumbled onto Nebraska Avenue and collapsed in the road.

Branch ran away from the scene.

 Someone called 911 for Williams, and he was taken to the hospital.

Officers were able to find Branch based on a description broadcasted over the radio.

Williams suffered a collapsed lung due to the stabbing, but he is reported to be in fair condition.

The woman was taken into custody and admitted to the stabbing. She has been charged with aggravated battery.

No other injuries were reported.
