NORTH PORT, Fla. — The top of the tree of a North Port family honors their grandmother who passed in March, but the bottom of the tree isn't so festive after a thief stole the gifts.
“My sister-in-law came down from New York and brought presents and her Christmas spirit,” said Ashton Randazzo.
“I thought it was a joke because I was sleeping,” said 13-year-old Arianna Randazzo.
Arianna and her three little brothers won't unwrap the presents their aunt bought them.
“Money’s tight but I did get them,” said sister-in-law Deborah Hall.
Unfortunately, they accidentally left the sliding glass door unlocked Thursday night and North Port Police say someone slid it open and not only took gifts but the family's transportation — a 2014 red Town and Country mini van.
“I feel sorry for them because they’re the ones that have to lay their head down, you know, and live with it,” said Ashton.
Police say there were two other car break-ins in the neighborhood around the same time.
This family says it won't stop their holiday.
“Even with no presents, it’s still Christmas,” said Arianna.
The top of their tree is what they'll focus on.
“We can still carry on my grandmother’s spirit,” she said.
