LAKELAND, Fla. — A Polk County suspect who was wanted for committing an attempted armed robbery in Lakeland has turned himself in to authorities.

The incident happened at the Sunoco gas station located at 2100 West Memorial Blvd. in Lakeland on Monday, December 11.

The victim, a taxi driver, drove the suspect, Edner Dely, 25, of Dade City, from a closed office building in Dade City to a location in Lakeland and then to the Sunoco to get cash from an ATM to pay the taxi fare. While at the gas station Dely went to the ATM in the store and then returned to the taxi with a small chrome handgun from his pocket and demanded the driver give him everything he had.

"I heard a click and I didn't know what it was and he showed me the gun inside 'if you don’t give me everything right now, you have three seconds, I’ll shoot you," the victim explained what the shooter said to him.

The victim told the suspect he didn't have anything on him and Dely ran from the scene.

"I’m scared to death of anyone I pick up now," the taxi driver said he has to go back to work, as it's his only source of income.

Polk County Sheriffs department issued an arrest warrant for Delay on Monday warning the public that he was considered armed and dangerous.

On Wednesday Delay turned himself in to the Pasco County Jail.

Charges are pending.
