LAKELAND, Fla. -- Gillian Fazio’s painting is about to become very popular on Instagram.
It is a tongue-in-cheek tapestry of a tiger devouring baseballs in the middle of Lakeland’s Joker Marchant Stadium.
Her canvas is big. Real big.

In November, the “moving mural” of the tiger — a nod to the Detroit Tigers who call the city home during spring training — will find a home somewhere on an outside wall in downtown Lakeland.
Gillian is one of 30 artists painting 60 large canvases for “Tapestries — Lakeland: An Un-Mural Art Exhibition.” The off-beat public art project is putting a twist on the mural craze sweeping the country.
Local art instigator Dave Collins came up with the idea. He successfully pitched it to Julie Townsend of the Lakeland Downtown Development Authority.
The murals will be big. The largest ones are 10 by 12 feet. Murals are typically permanent, but the ones soon to go up in Lakeland are movable.
“I think of this like a temporary tattoo versus a permanent tattoo,” says Townsend.
She believes the “moving murals” put less pressure on a business to cover a wall.
So far the artists painted 43 tapestries, including a wild one featuring a rubber duck dressed as the Statue of Liberty.
