POLK COUNTY, Fla. — An elementary teacher from Colorado was one of two men arrested in an undercover operation against lewd behavior at Gator Creek Preserve in Polk County.

Kyle Gilliam, 43, teaches fourth grade at Taylor Elementary in Colorado Springs. He was arrested after deputies say he had his hands in his pants when he approached an undercover detective and grabbed their groin. He was charged with battery.

John Johnson, 62, was also arrested. Johnson, from Mulberry, also grabbed an undercover detective's groin. He was charged with battery.

"At some point, folks have to realize that public parks in Polk County are not the place for this kind of behavior," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. "We make no secret that we conduct these types of investigations for a reason — so people will stop doing it."

Detectives conducted the investigation after complaints of lewd behavior at various parks in the county.

"Families have a right to enjoy our beautiful public spaces without worrying about seeing lewd activity," Judd continued. "And speaking of families with children, one of the two men arrested is a teacher of 4th and 5th graders in Colorado. He was booked in at the Polk County Jail, and we notified his school."

Both of the men were trespassed from Gator Creek Preserve and taken to the Polk County Jail.
