Southbound I-75 shutdown overnight due to multiple crashes, one person dead

SAN ANTONIO, Fla. - Southbound I-75 was shutdown due to several crashes involving at least eight cars in Pasco County on Thursday night.

All of the crashes happened within minutes of each other near mile marker 284 in San Antonio, which is near SR-52.

The Pasco County Sheriff's office says at least one person has died.

One of the crashes involved a patrol car and a van.  The deputy had originally pulled over to help a car that flipped.

Then, a pick up truck and semi collided a short distance away. Bay Flight was called to that scene.

In addition, right off the ramp for SR-52, at least 4 cars crashed.  No one in that crash was seriously injured.

Southbound traffic was detoured onto SR-52.

The interstate was reopened early Friday morning.

The cause of all the crashes remain under investigation.
