Boaters find body of James Poindexter in Gulf of Mexico, he went missing on Labor Day

CLEARWATER - Boaters aboard a 31-foot catamaran discovered a body floating in the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday about four miles off the Clearwater shore.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue crews were called and recovered the body and brought it ashore after 2 p.m.

The body is that of James Poindexter, 27, a father of four from Spring Hill.  He went missing Monday afternoon while swimming off Sand Key.

Investigators say the clothing and jewelry found on the body matched what Poindexter was wearing when he disappeared.

On Tuesday, the search for Poindexter was called off because of resources, the amount of time he had been missing and the fact the currents running through the area were so strong through Clearwater Pass that James could have ended up anywhere.
