HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Hillsborough County students are on their way to Washington D.C. to be a part of the March for Our Lives moment.

Students from across the country will stand united Saturday, fighting for stricter gun laws and improvements with school safety.

A few students, who attend Strawberry Crest High School, raised roughly $11,000 for the trip. It allowed about 30 students to go on the trip and a few chaperones. Students from a few different schools are participating this weekend. The trip is not sponsored by the district.

“I feel like the march in itself is showing that we’re not going to give up on this issue and that we’re going to keep pushing for it until something does happen,” N’dia Webb, Strawberry Crest HS student, said.

The Hillsborough County students are following the footsteps of Stoneman Douglas survivors by joining them tomorrow, hoping it will make a difference. On February 14, deputies arrested a teen, saying he killed 17 people at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.

“I want stricter gun reform. I want more background checks. I don’t really want teachers with guns at schools,” Aden Fiol, Strawberry Crest HS student, said.

The students will return to Hillsborough County from Washington D.C. on Sunday. The money they do not use on the trip will be donated to the victims of the Parkland shooting.

“We’re not going to sit here like idle ducks and wait for somebody else to do something for us,” Webb said.
