HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A Hernando County woman has been arrested and charged with neglecting her 85-year-old mother, who deputies say was found lying in a bed covered in her own feces.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, last Wednesday, Kimberly Schmeling, 61, drunkenly called 911 to complain about her family in New York hanging up on her. When deputies arrived at her home, they found her 85-year-old mother lying in her own feces. According to Schmeling, her mother is disabled and suffers from dementia. She also told deputies that she was her mothers only care provider.

Schmeling allegedly told deputies that she was angry with her mother, and refused to clean or care for her.

Deputies noted that Schmeling was not intoxicated to the level where she could not provide care to her mother.

The victim told deputies that she cannot care for herself and asked to be transported to the hospital, deputies say.

Schmeling was arrested and charged with neglect of a disabled elderly person.
