MacDill AirFest Canceled

Severe spending cuts are now the law of the land and the sequester has grounded the MacDill Airfest, for now.

The event set for next month was canceled Friday.

President Obama signed the $85 billion in budget cuts last night.

Airfest typically draws in around 100,000 spectators along with the Thunderbirds, which are also grounded starting April 1st.

Lawmakers couldn't reach an agreement to avoid the automatic spending cuts and there are some who say that could mean fewer federal meat inspectors, more flight delays and kids dropped from head start programs.

Even if a deal to avoid the cuts was close, it wouldn't have mattered because lawmakers are gone for the weekend. The president did say that he hopes Congress could strike a deal over the next few weeks to adjust what he calls the most drastic of the cuts.
