Do you know where you're most likely to be rear-ended in traffic in the Tampa Bay area?
ABC Action News is looking into the most recent data in order to zero in on when and where you are most likely to be hit.
The top five locations:
- I75 @ Brandon Blvd
- I 75 @ I 4
- US 19 @ Tampa Road
- I 275 @ I4
- US 92 @ I275
Below is a map of top crash locations, followed by data on the drivers and circumstances most common for rear-end wrecks. Spoiler: Young drivers and rush hour don't mix.
According to the data from Florida Department of Transportation, the most likely time to get in a wreck is fairly predictable: Rush hour on Friday around 5 p.m. You also could've probably guessed that the most common age group for drivers involved in rear-end accidents is the 20-24 range.
The frequency goes down as the drivers get older, despite the hump at the end of the chart. The 65+ group is a bit skewed since that includes a wider age range.

Also of note, (maybe simply because of the weather patterns in our area) the most common weather conditions for rear end crashes are sunny and dry with no fog.
Take a look at a visualized version of the crash data below.
