Cold weather shelters open in Hillsborough, Sarasota counties

Cold weather shelters are opening across Tampa Bay starting Monday, Feb. 1.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

The National Weather Service expects local temperatures to dip to or below 40 degrees with wind chill in Hillsborough County for the next three nights.

From Monday, Feb. 1-3, a cold weather shelter program will be activated for the homeless and those who live in homes without adequate heat.

Metropolitan Ministries and Tampa Crossroads are supplying a limited number of motel vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is required by calling the numbers below. The deadline to call is 5 p.m.

  • Metropolitan Ministries is offering a limited number of three-night vouchers for individuals and families at (813) 209-1176.
  • Tampa Crossroads is offering a limited number of two-night vouchers for individuals and couples without children at (813) 402-8871.

SARASOTA COUNTY

Sarasota County Emergency Management officials coordinated with partners and the Salvation Army to provide cold weather sheltering for those in need due to a drop in temperatures.

The Salvation Army will conduct weather operations on Tuesday, Feb. 2 with intake beginning at 7 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and breakfast will be served at 5:30 a.m.
