'Hobbit' director Peter Jackson says goodbye to Bilbo Baggins as Martin Freeman finishes pick-ups

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Peter Jackson, director of the 'The Hobbit' trilogy of films said a final on-set goodbye to actor Martin Freeman on Friday tonight.

For the past couple of weeks, Jackson has been filming pick-up shots for the final two Hobbit movies.

On his professional Facebook page Jackson wrote: "Tonight Martin Freeman finished his last shot as Bilbo Baggins. The end of an incredible two and a half years. I cannot imagine anyone else in this role - a character that Martin has nurtured and crafted with love and great skill."

Jackson wrote he has only two more weeks of pick-up shots to film and they all involve the dwarves, adding "I'm so happy with what we've been shooting. These next two movies are going to be pretty great!"

'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' is scheduled to be released worldwide on December 13, 2013. 'The Hobbit: There and Back Again' is scheduled to be released worldwide on December 17, 2014.
